Take a look. What do you see? Are they blocks and patches of blue, black, and white scattered across the canvas—pure abstraction? Or, with a closer glance, do you recognize the outline of Canada? ESSENCE was created in the summer of 2025 as a commissioned piece for Float Financial’s Toronto office. Measuring 36 inches tall by 48 inches wide and set within a sleek black floating frame, the work embodies the company’s story. After researching Float Financial’s history and values, Christian painted a piece that reflects the company’s humble Canadian beginnings, the diversity of its team and products, and the spirit of collaboration that drives its success. Christian employs the same meticulous techniques found in his landscape-inspired works such as BEAUSOLEIL ISLAND and EL CALAFATE. Each shape is carefully taped, sealed, and brushed in a distinct direction, with textured strokes intentionally visible and enriched with modelling paste. The palette draws from Float Financial’s brand colours, creating both harmony and identity. Subtly, within the lower right section of the canvas, the company’s logo is camouflaged into the mosaic—an embedded signature that personalizes the painting for its new home.

YELLOW REVERIE

"Yellow Reverie" is an enchanting painting that blends the old with the new, creating a striking illusion through strategically placed dark geometric shapes. These shapes mimic shadows, forming an architectural structure awash in a wave of moody yellow. Originally featuring a structure floating against a robin’s egg blue background, with blue, yellow, and red surfaces, the artist reinvented it in 2024.

BOOKTROPOLIS 2

"Booktropolis 2" is a testament to Christian's growth and dedication as an artist. This large, meticulously crafted piece, measuring 36 inches tall and 45 3/4 inches wide, builds on the foundation of the original "Booktropolis" with enhanced precision and detail. The sketching phase alone took several weeks, with Christian painstakingly ensuring the accuracy of each vanishing point. The creation process involved layers of paint, careful application of painter's tape, and more paint, spanning a total of four months while Christian simultaneously tackled other projects. This artwork reflects his admiration for architecture and multidimensional compositions, embodying the belief that anything is possible with determination and effort. To ensure off-canvas vanishing points were accurate, Christian ingeniously drilled a large plank behind the canvas and inserted large screws to hold the ruler in place. He used navy tones of red, blue, and yellow for the "books," Titan Buff for surfaces facing the right, and a homemade off-white for surfaces facing the sky. The graphite gray sky adds a sense of heaviness and intensity, making the cityscape stand out prominently. "Booktropolis 2" has been compared to the film "Inception" by art fair attendees, highlighting its intricate, dream-like quality. This labor of love is one of Christian’s most cherished creations, showcasing his technical skill and creative vision. Note: Frame is not included. Currently exhibited at Fengate Asset Management (2010 Winston Park Dr) until Dec. 16, 2024
